13 Benefits Of Jojoba Oil For Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that causes facial redness, small and superficial dilated blood vessels, papules (bumps), pustules (small pus-filled pimples), swelling of the face and eyelids, red or light-sensitive eyes, burning or stinging sensations.

The severity varies from individual to individual; in some people, rosacea causes severe redness and severe skin problems.

Jojoba oil is a liquid wax and it is the only known vegetable wax that resembles human sebum (oil produced by our skin).

It has been used for almost 30 years as an effective treatment for rosacea. Rosacea can be caused by many factors such as overactive sebaceous glands, allergies, stress, smoking, and alcohol consumption.

Many dermatologists use jojoba oil to treat rosacea because it decreases the production of facial oils and reduces acne outbreaks.

It keeps the face well moisturized without causing any oily or greasy appearance, which is essential in controlling rosacea-associated inflammations.

Furthermore, recent studies have shown that jojoba oil penetrates the skin deeper and more effectively than most other oils. Let’s look at the benefits of jojoba oil for rosacea:

1. Jojoba Oil Is Beneficial for Skin

Contains several skin beneficial compounds such as octinoxate, a compound that acts in a similar way to the chemical UV filters used in many sunscreens.

It also absorbs ultraviolet light and protects you from its harmful effects on your skin.

2. Jojoba Oil Controls Facial Oiliness

Decreases facial oiliness by decreasing sebaceous gland activity.

Sebum is produced by our sebaceous glands and it can cause rosacea symptoms such as acne outbreaks if we produce too much of it or if our pores become clogged with dead cells and dirt thus facilitating bacterial growth on the surface of our face turning into pimples and blackheads.

3. Jojoba Oil Is a Natural Vitamin E Source

Contains vitamin E, an antioxidant that is known for protecting skin cells from free radical damage which slows down cell aging and has anti-inflammatory properties that can help treat or prevent inflammation.

4. Jojoba Oil Contains Anti-Inflammatory Compounds That Can Soothe Rosacea Symptoms

Studies have shown that jojoba oil contains compounds such as urea, lauric acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, and palmitoleic acid which are all known to possess strong anti-inflammatory properties thus acting in the same way ibuprofen does but without causing dryness or any irritation of the skin!

Such anti-inflammatory properties of jojoba oil can be effectively used to treat and manage rosacea symptoms such as redness and dryness that usually accompany this skin condition.

5. Jojoba Oil Has Antifungal Properties Which Can Help Treat Rosacea

Contains anti-fungal properties that can fight fungal infections which are common in people with rosacea.

It is known to have antifungal activity against dermatophytes, the fungi responsible for skin infections such as athlete’s foot and yeast infections.

6. Jojoba Oil Can Be Used As A Cleansing Skin Treatment

Cleansing skin treatment can help treat mild cases of rosacea by removing excess oil, dirt, and other impurities from the face while stimulating the sebaceous glands.

This is done with jojoba oil because it contains compounds like lauric acid that act as surfactants (detergents).

The surfactant acts similarly to cleaning products used to remove dirt on surfaces but without irritating our skin.

When applied on our face jojoba oil removes makeup residue and excess sebum which are common causes for triggering outbreaks of acne and blackheads thus acting at the roots of rosacea problems.

7. Jojoba Oil Is Anti Inflammatory

Jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help control rosacea symptoms such as redness and dryness.

A recent study published in the journal “Skin Pharmacology and Physiology” showed how Jojoba oil significantly decreased inflammatory cytokines (immune system cells) when applied topically on rats with dermatitis over 4 weeks!

Cytokines are known for causing irritation and inflammation in our skin and it is usually their excessive production that causes different types of inflammations, including rosacea.

8. Jojoba Oil Is Full Of Vitamins

Vitamin E is one of the most beneficial vitamins for skin health and it is found in abundance in jojoba oil.

Vitamin E helps protect our skin from harmful UV rays, acts as an anti-inflammatory agent thus helping ease rosacea symptoms such as redness and irritation while fighting free radical damage that can accelerate signs of aging.

9. Jojoba Oil Is Rich In Essential Fatty Acids

Jojoba oil contains a high percentage of essential fatty acids which are also known as omega 6 substances.

Omega 6 fatty acids when applied topically on our skin have strong moisturizing properties that help maintain a healthy protective barrier on our face, thus preventing moisture loss and creating a more youthful appearance with its anti

10. Jojoba Oil Is A Good Moisturiser

High in vitamin E and other beneficial antioxidants, jojoba oil can be used as a moisturizer for face rosacea by supplying our skin with the necessary nutrients it needs to heal and regenerate itself.

11. Jojoba Oil Is Non-Comedogenic

Non-Comedogenic means that it doesn’t contain ingredients that clog up our skin pores thus preventing the development of acne and blackheads.

This is very important because rosacea sufferers are normally more prone to developing acne, especially on their chin area so jojoba oil will cleanse your face while also treating it without causing further breakouts.

12. Jojoba Oil Is Full Of Antioxidants

Antioxidants help fight off free radicals and protect our skin from UV damage which is the common cause of rosacea outbreaks.

Furthermore, antioxidants reduce inflammation to help ease rosacea symptoms such as redness and dryness while stimulating collagen production that can tighten up your skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

13. Jojoba Oil Is A Non-Toxic Treatment For Rosacea

Because jojoba oil is natural it does not contain any chemicals or toxins that can cause further damage to our skin which is a common case with many other rosacea treatments available on the market today.

How To Use Jojoba Oil For Rosacea

1. Jojoba Oil Should Be Applied Twice A Day on Your Face

It should be applied twice a day to your face after cleansing or when you feel like your face needs additional moisturization.

You should apply it by massaging it onto the affected areas, avoiding the eye area completely!

Furthermore, jojoba oil can also be used to dilute strong acne medications to prevent irritation.

2. Jojoba Oil Can Be Mixed With Other Moisturizers To Treat Rosacea

If you feel like your face could benefit from an additional moisturizer jojoba oil can be mixed with a regular moisturizer you use for your face to reduce the chances of causing irritation and redness.

You should mix a small amount of both products into a separate container then apply it on your face using gentle circular motions, starting from the neck and working upward towards the cheek area.

The best way to use jojoba oil for rosacea is to mix it with honey and apply it on the face as a mask (leave it on your face for about 15 minutes or more depending on how sensitive your skin is).

Wash off using lukewarm water and pat dry. Repeat twice daily. If you have extremely sensitive skin, you can also dilute jojoba oil in some aloe vera gel before applying it to avoid any adverse reactions.

3. Use Jojoba Oil On Your Face At Night-Time

It is best to use jojoba oil as a nighttime rosacea facial treatment as this is when our skin regenerates the most so we want our skin to be as healthy as possible to prevent future outbreaks of acne and irritation.

4. Jojoba Oil Can Be Used As A Makeup Remover

If you use makeup on your face jojoba oil can act as a natural makeup remover by removing the product residues that usually stay on our face even after cleansing, thus causing further inflammation and harmful bacteria buildup which often leads to rosacea breakouts.

Simply apply a few drops of jojoba oil onto a cotton ball or pad then wipe it off using circular motions starting from the forehead and working downward towards the chin area.

Jojoba Oil For Rosacea – Conclusion

As we can see, jojoba oil is beneficial in many ways to rosacea sufferers and it should be used both as a daily facial treatment and whenever our skin feels dry or irritable.

It can also be applied to dilute any acne medications for rosacea that you may decide to use.

Jojoba oil not only prevents further breakouts while treating our skin but also contains anti-aging antioxidants which prevent damage caused by free radicals on the skin.

Using jojoba oil regularly will make your skin more healthy, firm, glowing, and youthful!
